The upgrade itself worked, but the web UI kept disconnecting because an old root user-level openclaw-gateway.service was still running and fighting the real OpenClaw system service for port 18789. Here’s how we proved it and fixed it.

After hearing all the excitement and hype about OpenClaw I decided I wanted to find out more about it. So I decided to try setting up my own instance of it. I selected to have a first go on the cloud, and I chose DigitalOcean as the service provider. The went smoothly at first, but then…. I hit a couple of snags, after help from AI I managed to sort the problems and get it up and running, here’s the full story…
